What is a HERS rating?
The Home Energy Rating gives you a certificate that lasts for 5 years which you can sell with your home. The Accurate house modeling tool used is world class and tailored for New Zealand climate zones and house construction methods. This tool models each room of your house for each hour of every day in the year, calculating the heating and cooling loads to define the final star rating. EECA have added tools rate the hot water heating system and soon to rate the space heating system.
Each HERS certificate will have several rating runs completed and recommendations made to how you can improve you house rating.
While the HERS rating is not as general as EAC's Energy-audit the modeling / reporting tool. The software program used, Accurate is complex and can handle a large range of house building materials and house configurations. The assessors are trained and audited by ABSA the Association of Building Sustainability Assessors whom have assessors in both Australia and New Zealand.
